When King George III punished Boston after the Boston Tea Party, Charlestonians took notice. Locals had actually staged their own tea protest two week prior, successfully locking away or destroying the British cargo.
The harsh British response in Massachusetts proved that the Crown could easily devastate Charles Town's commerce.
