AARON LOOCOCK, 1733-1794

One of the sites we see on Charleston Raconteurs' Day on the Cooper River tour is the recently rediscovered St. James Goose Creek Chapel of Ease Historic graveyard. Perhaps no place else in America tells a more poignant story of our nation's complex history than this small plot of land quietly tucked away along the banks of Chapel Creek in Berkeley County, S.C.

Among the graves identified here so far is that of Aaron Loocock, a colonial leader, planter and Revolutionary War Patriot. This is his story.

Charleston Raconteurs is pleased to be working with the St. James Historic Site committee to research and interpret the lives of those buried at this incredible site.
